The following is an extract from an email sent to the principal following his visit:
Last Friday, I left home early in the morning to present to the students at Davis College, Mallow.
An hour and a half later, I was walking through the doors of Davis College and felt such an immediate welcome from everything and everyone. The bright light coming through the windows; the smiles on the faces of the students, teachers and other school staff; the TV screens showing Sky News and Euro News; the Sanctuary for taking time out; the noise of the students and PE teacher in the gym; the smells coming from the Home Economics room. Why wasn’t there a school like this for me when I was 17?
The next two hours were spent listening and talking with fifth year students, teachers and Denis Healy, School Principal. I’ve been in many Silicon Valley offices with their attempts to promote Leadership, Innovation, Community, Success, Respect, and other values. Never have I been in one place that captured these values with such clarity and such ease.
