Music Week at Davis College
Music is a vital part of the curriculum in Davis College and we have an outstanding choir that performed at the launch of Focus Ireland's Christmas campaign in Cork as well as at a host of school events. Our Light Entertainment group were placed 2nd in Ireland in last years competition and are progressing steadily again this year. A radio show is broadcast each morning this week by TY students and a range of other events are planned. Music week is dovetailing with Seachtain na Gaeilge which includes a trad workshop and a ceili. Our annual African Drumming workshop is also a favourite.
Music will also be incorporated into many subject areas over the week:
Languages: Music of France, Music of Germany, Irish Music etc.
History: French revolution in the movies- les miserable
Wellbeing/ CSPE/ SPHE: Meditation - music and relaxation
Business: Music and advertising, copyright, the music industry
Woodwork: Different types of wood used for different instruments
Science: Measurement of sound/ sound waves/ sound production/ sound engineering
English: Poetry and songwriting
Geography: Music and regional styles/ how our landscape shapes our music
Agricultural science: music and milk production
Maths: Measurement of sound/ counting beats
