Dear Parent
I hope this letter finds you well.
In Davis College we are looking forward to welcoming many of your students to our school next year. Preparations are well underway for their arrival and this letter is by way of letting you know what we have planned to ease their transition from primary to secondary school.
Firstly, we will be holding a parent meeting in late April/Early May to ensure our incoming parents are fully informed of what to expect from the school. At this meeting parents will be provided with all the information they require and will get the opportunity to meet with key staff members who will be involved with their children.
Prior to the summer, we will provide a welcome pack to our incoming students. We will also facilitate visits to the school for students who need extra reassurance around the move. At the commencement of the new school term, 1st Year students will initially have the school building to themselves to help them adjust to their new surroundings.
In this context, we do not hold entrance assessment tests at this time of year. While we regard these tests as essential, it is not essential to conduct them at this time. Instead, we will conduct this testing in the early weeks of the school year when students are settling into their new school. This approach brings numerous advantages:
1. Tests are conducted in small class groups
2. Testing is kept low-key with students regarding them as just being part and parcel of their new school.
3. This approach reduces stress and anxiety
4. Less stress and anxiety mean results are far more accurate.
5. Testing can be completed online so results are returned far more quickly
In the meantime, we will work with your son/daughter’s primary school to prepare for their arrival to us.
