Davis College TY students have been involved in Young Social Innovators Project since September. Having come up with a range of innovative ideas around the issue of mental health they have secured €800 toward their project
They are using this money to facilitate a mental health awareness day for Malloe town and are seeking businesses in the locality to take part. As part of this initiative three students addressed the North Cork Business Alliance, at their weekly breakfast morning meet in the Hibernian Hotel on February 28th. The students informed those present of a project that they are currently working on which focuses on the pressing issue of mental health. As part of their action plan the group are running a Mental Health Awareness Day in the town of Mallow and beyond, on Friday March 27th, where they hope local business leaders will don lapel pins and t-shirts which they have designed. The response at the breakfast meet was really strong with over twenty businesses signing up and committing to taking part on the day.
They are now extending their call to all business leaders in the locality and asking them to back and support their upcoming awareness day. Interested businesses can make contact through the contact email ‘
mallowmentalhealthday@gmail.com’. Those interested are asked to submit their orders for lapel pins and for t-shirts via this email. Lapel pins are retailing for €3 with t-shirts at €10. Orders will be available for collection at their pop up shop in West End Studios Mallow on Wednesday the 25th, Thursday the 26th and on the awareness day itself, on Friday March 27th . All profits from sales will go directly to Jigsaw and Pieta House. The overall vision is that local business leaders will don the lapel pins and/or t-shirts on this day, in a coordinated approach. The students feel that every individual has a role to play, we all need to take action, we all need to make a difference and this in turn will create a positive ripple effect.
