Transition Year Subject Choice
We ask our TY students to choose subject prior to beginning the year. This is after a meeting with Guidance Counsellors and discussions with teachers about different subject areas. Even if students are not sure of what career path they want at this stage, they are very aware of what subjects they like and dislike. Remember, they will have experienced them over the course of three years as well. Ultimately they choose subject they enjoy which leads them into careers they will enjoy.
That said, we also allow flexibility and students in TY can change subject any time during the school year. Of course Transition Year also has a range of addition subjects such as Drama, Political Studies, Road Safety, Environmental Studies, eTwinning, Mini company, Social Studies, Self Defence etc. However, we always keep one eye on the Leaving Certificate and everything in TY contributes to student achievement in this exam.
