LCVP is a Senior Cycle Programme of the Department of Education and Skills, designed to give a strong vocational dimension to the established Leaving Certificate. The programme combines the virtues of academic study with a new focus on self-directed learning, enterprise, work and the community. Students taking the LCVP have a unique opportunity to develop their interpersonal, vocational and technological skills. Link to Dept. of Education LCVP.pdf
What does LCVP look like in practice?
Students do exactly the same Leaving Certificate as those not doing LCVP but they do an extra subject. This subject is referred to a Link Module. There are three different emphasis involved in a link module: enterprise education, preparation for work and work experience. Link modules also involve keeping a portfolio of work over the two years. This portfolio includes a career investigation, a curriculum vitae etc.
Assessment
The portfolio of work is assessed and students complete an interview which is recorded and sent away for assessment. Students also complete a two hour exam in early May before the main exams. There are three grades in LCVP and the point awarded are displayed below.
